Trudon

Since 1643

Claude Trudon first established the Maison de Cire Trudon in 1643 at the start of the reign of Louis XIV.

His enterprise owed its existence to marriage into wealthy family, proprietors of a emporium in the Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. Trudon worked there for years, first as a trader of spices and foods, later as a chandler.

Over time he developed his skills and began to supply candles to private homes and church communities. Trudon went on to become the only candle manufacturer with an official royal warrant as purveyor to the court at Versailles. As a supplier of royalty and religious institutions the Trudon enterprise was able to prevail across the epochs, and now enjoys the distinction of being the only candlemaking company worldwide to have survived the great revolutions and wars since the 17th century intact. Even the introduction of gas lighting and later electricity couldn’t snuff out the Trudon candle trade.

Consistent innovation-led redirection of the business, with an unwavering focus on quality, enabled Trudon to steer its way into a stable future. The now-iconic fragrance candles in their green Italian glass vessels first came on the market in 2007.

Trudon, which had already achieved a high brand profile as the world’s most experienced candlemaker, had now become a lifestyle brand. Reed diffusors, room sprays and fragrance lanterns round off the Trudon assortment of sophisticated ambient fragrance.
