Just minding my own business, reading the papers one fine Sunday morning, I stumbled upon a fascination story about a spin-off company that had come out of the ETH Zurich, Switzerland’s world famous technical university. After 20 years of intensive research, a team there had succeeded in developing a botanical active agent complex to improve the function of the lymphatic system. Over the years they had carefully screened more than 2,000 plant extracts for possible effectiveness. The research work was now complete and had been passed on to a Basel pharmaceuticals company, where the findings would be used for medical product development.

Two of the scientists involved in this project, Dr. Detmar and Dr. Gousopulos, were convinced that some of the plants they had studied for all those years would lend themselves very well to supporting lymphatic function externally, via skincare applications. The two then stayed “on the ball” for several years and their tenacity paid off in the end. In collaboration with British marketing expert Yasmine Cherry the IRÄYE brand was born. It is no accident that the name is pronounced «I-ray», suggesting a beam of individual radiance. I was immediately galvanized. After all, the Spitzenhaus concept of curated selection is wholly committed to innovative, game-changing and truly unique products and developments, so I “just had” to meet the two brand creators right away. And it turned out to be an enchanting encounter, during which I was very conclusively reminded of the vital importance of a high-performance lymphatic system. Further meetings were to follow.

I have an especially fond memory of one occasion when the two scientists spent a “meet the press and public” day with us at Spitzenhaus. The renowned ETH professor emeritus and his plastic surgeon colleague generously shared their perspectives on cosmetic effects, on active ingredients and on the sensible and the nonsensical uses of invasive plastic surgery. The discussion was lively and everyone present came away with an incredible wealth of new information and insights.
