Aedes de Venustas

In 1995, on Christopher Street in New York City, Robert Gerstner and Karl Bradl, two German immigrants from Bavaria, founded their fragrance boutique Aedes de Venustas: in other words, the temple of beauty.

It soon became the in-destination for stylish people who love to surround themselves with beautiful things, back then mostly European. Even today, on a visit to the boutique you might run into early customers such as Meryl Streep, Naomi Campbell or Sarah Jessica Parker, who remain loyal fans and are all now part of the founders’ personal circle of friends. Baroque interiors and a flair for being a bit “OTT” while never missing the style mark became the trademark of Aedes de Venustas. From the taxidermied white peacock in the front window to the opulent flower arrangements inside the shop – Aedes de Venustas always had its finger on the pulse of the day while remaining true to its passion for cosmopolitan opulence.

One step ahead of the market as always, in 2012 Aedes de Venustas presented its own eau de parfum: Signature. The creation by master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour offered an unusual and exciting combination of rhubarb and incense. Back then, rhubarb was practically unheard of as a fragrance note and its use in Signature was considered revolutionary. Years later, the rhubarb molecule was developed for commercial use in perfumes and only then found its way into numerous compositions, including those of very well known brands. The enormous success of their debut scent led, over the years, to the creation of further creations with star perfumers, to create an impressive collection.

Now, in the year 2022, the brand is celebrating a market relaunch not only with a new online presence, but also with brand new fragrance creations that ring in a whole new era. But the core pillars of the brand remain unchanged: its flamboyant style and characteristic compositions, all imminently wearable yet utterly unique with exceeding strength of character.
